Note: Karl Grafton Beatty affectionately known as “Tubby” went to his heavenly home on Monday, September 11, 2023, where Jesus greeted him with open arms at Heaven’s gates along with other family and cherished friends who went before him. Karl Grafton Beatty affectionately known as “Tubby” went to his heavenly home on Monday, September 11, 2023, where Jesus greeted him with open arms at Heaven’s gates along with other family and cherished friends who went before him. Tubby was born on Monday, October 15, 1928, in Kelley’s Island, Lake Erie, Ohio, the son of Leslie and Henrietta Beatty. He was raised on the Island and started working on Neuman Boat line at the early age of 14. After graduating from Kelley’s Island High School, class of 1946, Tubby, and his brothers proudly enlisted in the United States Navy where he worked on aircraft carriers as an engineer during the Korean Conflict. During the 1960’s, Tubby, his father, Leslie, and his daughter Judy built their home which still stands strong on Bogart Road in Castalia, Ohio. Every Sunday, Tubby would take his family to his parents’ house where they would share dinner together. This was very important to him. Tubby enjoyed travelling and made many trips to Alaska, Hawaii, and Florida. He enjoyed his grandkids and was always ready to help donate to the local school boosters. He loved watching sports and always cheered for the Ohio State Buckeyes. Tubby’s biggest passion in life was fishing. He loved being on the water of Lake Erie and he was the best fisherman, ever. He caught the tastiest perch and whenever family visited, he would always have a heaping pile of fresh fried perch. No perch will ever compare to his. His memory will forever be cherished by his family, friends, and all those who had the privilege of knowing him. Surviving is his son, Jim Beatty; daughter, Judith Beatty (Tom) Evans; granddaughters, Sarah (Steve) Wolthuis, Elizabeth Evans, Alisha Bryant; great-grandchildren, Seth, Hayden, and Isabella Wolthuis. Tubby is preceded in death by his parents, Leslie and Henrietta Beatty; brother, Clyde “Zip” Beatty; son, Ron Beatty, and wives Vicky Bressler-Beatty, and Vonnie (Market) Beatty. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Groff Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held Maple Leaf Cemetery on Put-N-Bay Thursday September 21st, 2023 at 11:00 am Pastor Tom Evans, Son in law of Karl will be presiding. For those desiring memorial contributions may be made to Ohio Veterans Home Sandusky and Maritime Museum of Sandusky in memory of Karl “Tubby” Beatty.
