Obituary Lydia R. Bechtel, 92, of Sandusky, died Monday morning, Nov. 26, 2007, in Stein Hospice Care Center after a brief illness. She was born May 21, 1915, on Kelleys Island. She was a graduate of Kelleys Island High School, and was active in the family's business, Bechtel-McLaughlin, where she served on the board of directors. Lydia was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and a founding member of the Kelleys Island Historical Association. She was also a member of the Colonial Dames, Sandusky Yacht Club, IAB Club, Providence Hospital Volunteer Association, and Plum Brook Country Club. She was also a Providence Fund Trustee. Lydia was a very good painter and enjoyed fishing and golfing. Her son, John "Kip" (Barbara) Ohlemacher of Huron; grandchildren, Critt (Carol), Chuck (Lisa), Chris (Barbara), and Craig (Mary) Ohlemacher; 17 grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; a stepdaughter, Barbara Galloway; stepgrandchildren, Jackie Finger and Gary Galloway; three sisters-in-law, Orma Call, Eleanor Pfleiger and Bernadette Rogers; beloved friend, Sue Stamm; and numerous nieces and nephews survive her. Her first husband, John H. Ohlemacher, who died in 1951; her second husband, Ronald W. Bechtel, who died June 24, 1992; her parents, Nelson and Rose (Fedderson) Dwelle; sisters, Henrietta and Neva Beatty, Florence Martin and Patricia Rotsinger; brothers, George, Myron and Sylvester Dwelle; great-grandson, Tyler Ohlemacher; and stepgrandson, Grant Galloway, preceded her in death. At Lydia's request, there will be no visitation. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Mary's Catholic Church, 429 Central Ave., Sandusky. The Rev. Phil Feltman will officiate. Burial will follow mass in Kelleys Island Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Ron Bechtel Scholarship fund at St. Mary High School, 410 W.
