Obituary Richard Norman "Norm" Swanson, 74, of Sandusky passed away peacefully early Monday afternoon, April 12, 2010, in Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky, surrounded by his family. He was born Aug. 6, 1935, in Sandusky, the son of Lawrence F. and Estella (Ward) Swanson. He was a 1955 graduate of Sandusky High School. Norm, with his brother Larry, operated the Barn Tavern, formerly on Perkins Avenue. He co-owned and managed for several years Bonnie Lanes and later co-owned and operated, with his wife Nancy, the Maple Tree Restaurant and Bowling Alley in Norwalk for almost 10 years before retiring. After retiring, he went on to work at Quality Farm and Fleet for several years. He was a member of First Faith Community Church, American Legion Post 83, Sandusky Bowling Association, where in 1995 he was awarded the "Service Award for Outstanding Service" to the Sandusky Bowling Association, and a former member of AMVETS Post 17. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Nancy K. (Shively) Swanson, whom he married Nov. 1955; two sons, Jeffrey (Peggy) Swanson and Donald (Kim) Swanson of Sandusky; seven grandchildren, Tiffany, Michelle, Kaylee, Andrew, Jacob, Grace and Nick; four great-grandchildren, Emily, Caleb, Mira and Devin; brother, Robert M. Swanson, and sister, Senora Swanson, both of Sandusky; many nieces and nephews; and a countless array of friends and associates who made his journey through life enjoyable and eventful. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Larry W. Swanson; and sister, Dorothy Jane Meilink. Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today in David F. Koch Funeral Home, 520 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home; the Rev. Eric A. Rickel will officiate. Burial will be in Sand Hill Cemetery, Sandusky. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to First Faith Community Church, 225 E.
